It’s been a while since I’ve been here, most of my blogs seem to start with that!
After competing in TriAthy I haven’t exercised continuously with any real conviction. This is mainly down to injury but that’s only half an excuse. I have a pretty bad case of ‘Plantar Fasciitis‘; it’s a foot condition, particularly sore in the morning but the pain is increased with running. So bad that if I ran a 5k now, I wouldn’t walk for 3 days afterwards. It’s a bitch to repair and rest is the main prescription from the physio.
So that’s more than 12 weeks off. I’ve done some weight training, a bit of swimming but I’ve been mainly sitting on my arse. As a result, I’m not fit anymore, I’ve put on weight (though I’m still under where I finished OT) but I’m not improving.
I saw a specialist last week who gave me hope that I’ll get back running, it might be another couple of months & I may have to learn how to run differently to avoid injury but I’ll still get back out there. That’s positive!
I’ll be very sad watching people run the Dublin Marathon without me in it, but there’ll be other races and I’ll be in them. That’s the motivation.
Real success comes from not achieving all the time, but having the strength to get back up when you’ve failed.
