About Killian

Killian Byrne

I was born in September 1972 and led a relatively uneventful life until January 2012 when I was thrust into the public eye as a leader on the top rated RTE television programme ‘Operation Transformation‘.

Having reached 20st 4lbs and with a history of family weight related illness, I finally became concerned for my health and decided to make serious changes. Starting the TV show at over 19stone, I went on to lose 3st 5lbs in 7 weeks, ran my first ever 5k race at the end of the programme and in the process became not only the most successful leader of series 5, but I lost more weight than any leader either before or in any Operation Transformation series since.

Having taken up running, I continue to lose weight and now regularly compete in races nationwide. With 5 marathons, 2 half Ironman triathlons and many other races under my belt I am passionate about health, fitness and personal wellbeing.

Following this success, I am lucky enough to now regularly present to corporate & public audiences on positive mental attitude, motivation and success.

As a monthly contributor to Irish Runner magazine and a recently appointed ambassador to the Sport Ireland – European Week of Sport – ‘Be Active’ campaign, I take a special interest in encouraging families to #BeActive and in particular, promoting a parents role in encouraging their children to be nutritionally aware and to take a lead in making fitness and the outdoors fun and a family event.

I am married with two children and live in Dublin. I work in my own Exhibition & Event Management business.

This blog is primarily for my own motivation, if any of my experiences help others along the way then I am delighted, that is a great result. Please do not hesitate to get in contact with any questions or queries you may have either about my story or to share yours. For speaking enquiries, please use the ‘contact me’ page.

Thanks for visiting and particular, for reading!

  1. I’m enjoying your blog, arrived here via an Ian McKeever search somehow. I have a love of family, mountains, cheese and photography amongst other things.

    Keep on keeping on 🙂

  2. Adrian says:

Still the most inspirational leader I’ve seen on operation transformation… You inspired me to run the dublin marathons last year

  3. Niall says:

Great swimming also in Swimamile (probably a different thread, but I’m not very techy), maybe Dublin Swimming Club might be of interest in the future?
